TABE Exam

 

The first step in the enrollment process is to schedule and sit for your TABE exam! The Tests of Adult Basic Education (TABE) is designed to assess the skills and knowledge of adult learners in applied math, mathematic computation, reading, and language.  Powered by DRC INSIGHT, students are notified of their TABE exam score immediately after completing their exam in the Baldy View ROP Career Training Center computer lab.

HOW DO I SCHEDULE MY TABE EXAM?

When ready, prgram candidates can call the Career Training Center at 909-947-3400 to schedule their TABE exam. If testing is open, the student will be scheduled according to the established testing schedule. You can also submit an Adult Interest Form to receive a call to schedule your TABE exam.

Nope! Candidates can take the TABE exam free of charge!

WHAT VERSION OF THE TABE EXAM IS USED BY BALDY VIEW ROP?

Licensed Vocational Nursing

Candidates testing for the Licensed Vocational Nursing program are issued TABE Level D/Form 9 & 10. 

Medical Assistant

Candidates testing for the Medical Assistant program are issued TABE Level D/Form 9 & 10 for Reading and TABE Level M/Form 9 & 10 for Math Computation.  

HOW LONG IS THE TABE EXAM?

Licensed Vocational Nursing

Each candidate tests in four areas: Applied Math, Mathematic Computation, Reading, and Language. Each section consists of 25 questions and is timed. 

Applied Math - 25 questions/25 minutes

Mathematic Computation - 25 questions/15 minutes

Reading - 25 questions/25 minutes

Language - 25 questions/25 minutes

Medical Assistant, Registered Dental Assistant, and Pharmacy Technician

Each candidate tests in one two areas: Reading and Math Computation. Each section consists of 25 questions and is timed. 

Reading - 25 questions/25 minutes

Math Computation - 25 questions/15 minutes

Students work at their own pace as long as they complete each section in the allotted amount of time. Each section is independently timed and the time will not begin until the tester selects a specific section. 

EXAM RESULTS AND REQUIREMENTS

Candidates sitting for the TABE Exam are immediately notified of their score following the completion of their testing session unless otherwise specified. Each candidate will meet with the Student Services Specialist to review each area score.

Licensed Vocational Nursing

Candidates testing for the Licensed Vocational Nursing program must receive a score of 11 or higher in the following areas:

  1. Reading Level
  2. Mathematics Level
  3. Total Battery Level

Medical Assistant, Registered Dental Assistant, and Pharmacy Technician

Candidates testing for the Medical Assistant and Registered Dental Assistant programs must receive a score of 5 or higher to pass the TABE exam while candidates testing for Pharmacy Technician must receive a score of 7 or higher to pass.  

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY SCORE IS LOWER THAN THE MANDATORY REQUIREMENT?

No problem! The candidate is more than welcomed to schedule another session during an available testing session time to retake the exam. The Student Services Specialist is available to discuss test re-take options with any candidate that inquires. 

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT DURING THE TESTING SESSION? 

Testing sessions begin promptly at the scheduled testing time. Candidates are encouraged to arrive at least 15 minutes before their scheduled testing time to fill out any necessary paperwork. Candidates will be lead into the Baldy View ROP Career Training Center computer lab where the exam will be proctored and video recorded. Each candidate will be issued a case sensitive Username and Password that will be unique to their testing profile and testing session. Once the test has begun, candidates are free to test at their own pace within the allotted time and in the order of sections they feel most comfortable with. 

During the math portion, candidates will be offered an erasable board or scratch paper to help with answer computation. CALCULATORS ARE ONLY ALLOWED DURING THE MATH APPLICATION PORTION OF THE EXAM AND WILL BE PROVIDED THROUGH THE TABE TESTING PROGRAM. Erasable boards and all scratch paper must be surrendered at the completion of the exam. 

CELL PHONES, FOOD, and DRINK ARE NOT PERMITTED DURING TESTING SESSIONS.

Candidates scheduled to complete the TABE exam are highly encouraged to seek test preparation in an effort to secure a passing score. Test preparation is currently not offered by Baldy View ROP at this time.
