Vocational Nursing (LVN)
What does this program prepare me to do?
It prepares a person to meet all the legal requirements for a license as a vocational nurse in California.
The practice of vocational nursing means the performance of services requiring those technical and
manual skills that are acquired from courses taken in this program. Theory content and clinical skills
are components of each course of study.
The practice of a vocational nurse is under the direction of a licensed physician, or registered
professional nurse. Some of the authorized practices of a licensed vocational nurse are as follows:
- Administer medications by hypodermic injection
- Withdraw blood from a patient
- Administer intravenous fluids after following State guidelines
- Administer supervised skin tests and immunizations
- Pass medications
- General nursing care
When will the next class begin?
The next Vocational Nursing Class will begin in January 2007.
What is the first step I need to take?
- Sign-ups for a pre-entrance test at the Career Training Center
(1501 S. Bon View Ave. Ontario, CA 91761)
- Bring $20 cash only to sign up

Between 8:00a.m. -4:00p.m. ***
What are the prerequisites?
- Student applicants must be at least 17 years of age
- Have a high school diploma or GED or
- Students with a high school diploma earned outside of the United States need to provide legal documentation that their education is equal to a 12th grade education in the U.S.
What is the Recommended Background?
- Medical Experience: Individuals having experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, is recommended.
What are the Admission Requirements?
- Pass the pre-entrance test, which includes reading comprehension, math, language and spelling (TABE-Test of Basic Education Assessments).
- Applicants must submit official high school transcripts, GED or transcripts showing an AA
Degree or notarized documents verifying they have an education equal to a 12th
grade education
in the U.S.
- Copies of health related certificates, proof of health care experience on employer’s letterhead
prior to acceptance into the program.
- Attend new student orientation
What is the Admission Process?
- Pass the Pre-entrance test
- Vocational Nursing Application
- Attend new student orientation
- Complete ALL requirements given at new student orientation and turn into the Baldy View
ROP-Career Training Center office located at 1501 S. Bon View, Ontario.
- Receive an acceptance letter to begin class the second week of January 2007.
What is the length of the program?
- 24-36 hours per week
- 2 days theory hours (Normally, Mondays & Thursdays- 0800-1500)
2-3 days clinical hours per week
(Tuesdays, Wednesday s, & Fridays from 0645-1515)
